Welcome Words by Wendy: Skills for the Future

by Wendy Edie
eCom's Managing Director

In the week when Twitter announces employees will be allowed to work from home ‘forever’, the eCom board have been giving careful thought to what the eCom working environment is going to look like from now on.

We are fortunate that, due to the nature of our business, we are in no rush to return to the office, however, there is still a duty we all have as Directors to ensure the working environment is safe.

Reopening will be careful

What the detail in Twitter's headline didn’t convey was that those who want to return to the office will be able to do so. The reality is that some people want to return to the working environment and some don’t and some want a mix of options.  And with that in mind, the #eComWay as with many other businesses will be one of flexibility.

Developing Skills

Offering flexibility will naturally create the need for a focus on skills that ensure we thrive as individuals, businesses, and on an economic and societal level. Skills that have already been identified by Skills Development Scotland as the ‘Skills for the Future’ and are even more prevalent in the face of COVID recovery such as:

  • Self-Management – Manage the How
  • Social Intelligence – Connect with the World
  • Innovation – Create our own change

These skills will help us cope in this environment of ongoing change and enable us to excel; to collaborate and empathise with others and to create our own futures.

Free LMS and eLearning content

If like me, you are keen to enable these skills in your organisation I would recommend taking up our offer as we team up with our partner, OpenSesame to provide our Learning Management System eNetLearn and some fully curated eLearning content for FREE until the 15th June.

In the meantime we are keen to carefully open eCom HQ, although it will be a long time until we are welcoming guests in our usual gregarious way you will all have been used to.

You can Contact Us Online or by telephone on 01383 630032.

Please see eCom’s current statement on COVID:19 and Business Continuity.

Keep safe and keep going,

Wendy
