Autism Spectrum Disorders
eLearning and web resources for healthcare best practice
Using material from an existing web learning resource, this course demonstrates the flexibility of eLearning.
NHS Education Scotland (NES) develop and deliver education and training to support NHS services.
NHS wanted to develop an eLearning course, using existing web learning resources, for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and, subsequently, to redesign the website. The resources were to help healthcare professionals accommodate the needs of patients with ASD so needed to present a complex and comprehensive topic clearly and concisely.
- Health professionals who have completed the course now have the knowledge to implement practical strategies for adapting their routine practice for people with ASD, and their family and carers
- Signs of ASD can be identified and recognised and patients with ASD are provided with the support they need
- Use of the course can be tracked and reported on, providing statistics to inform and support quality improvement in service provision and health outcomes
- There is easy access to the eLearning in the workplace and learners can complete at times convenient to them
