RNIB Video Case Study Script The Royal National Institute of Blind People is one of the world’s leading organisations who support people with sight loss.

Our goal is to help anyone with sight loss, including those who offer support, to face the future with confidence, and we’ve been doing this now for nearly 150 years’.

We understand how important it is for people with sight loss to remain independent. We offer practical and emotional support to individuals, charities and businesses including advice on employment, technology, help with everyday tasks and staff awareness training or even tips on how to continue with hobbies.

We provide training and a consultancy service to businesses and professionals working in social care, health, education and employment. To meet the high demand from our business clients we wanted to make our training more flexible and cost effective so turned to digital learning technology.

To achieve this, we partnered with eCom, a learning technologies provider, who worked with us to define an effective digital learning strategy and to develop a range of eLearning courses.

Working together, significant research was undertaken on how to structure content to make it accessible using screen reader software. eCom also ensured that our relevant courses met the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines standards, and that these courses are available across a wide range of devices.

Our thanks go to eCom for their invaluable advice on the bespoke learning management system and our growing range of accessible and standard eLearning courses.

These courses were developed for

  • The Public Academy which focuses on personal development and is used by anyone supporting a person with sight loss;
  • The Professional Academy which is mainly for employers in the third sector, health care, local authorities, education and employment sectors;
  • The Customer Academy, for businesses across financial services, retail, housing and utility providers, helping to tailor customer service requirements for people with sight loss; and
  • The Internal Academy used by RNIB Group and Cardiff Institute for the Blind’s staff and volunteers.

Our partnership with eCom goes from strength to strength as we move into the next phase of creating more customised eLearning courses for the business sector as well as continuing to develop courses for both the national and international market.
