Today is World Health and Safety Day 2016 with the theme “Workplace Stress: a collective challenge”. In 2014-15, 35% of work-related ill health cases were due to stress.
Here at eCom we have experience of using digital learning technologies to provide mental help information to combat stress. We worked with NHS Fife Psychology and Public Health Department to develop the Moodcafe website as an accessible public resource to meet the needs of local people with mild to moderate mental health problems. The site is also a valuable resource for Primary Care and Mental Health Services staff.
The website has material relevant to social and vocational aspects of health in addition to well-being, lifestyle and relaxation. Although some of the resources and services on the site are local, the nature of much of the material means that its value is not restricted to Fife.
The MoodCafé site allows administrators to continue to develop the site by adding new content, web links and features. Supplementary resources have been developed by eCom to support relaxation using avatar type characters and audio.
MoodCafé has had such a positive impact that GP’s and other members of the Primary Care Team routinely direct patients to the site, when they first present psychological difficulties or signs of stress.
