Around 5 years ago I moved with my family to Houston Texas to help guide the development of a growing technical expertise in the USA for my previous company. The main focus of the role was on building key relationships across the various business units of the company, recruiting and developing new technical staff, while continuing to remain involved in a product development role and web operations management.
I really enjoyed my experience working and living in the USA but as a family we felt that it was time to return to Scotland to start a new chapter in our lives. I was hugely impressed by what eCom Scotland had to offer and the opportunity to work on the management team of a successful and growing Scottish company was very appealing.
My official title at eCom is Software Development Manager but internally I am known as the ‘Operations Manager’. I am responsible for production, maintenance and delivery of eCom’s quality learning and assessment solutions to our global customers. I lead a multi-disciplinary team of very engaged software developers, designers, project leads, customer service professionals and business analysts. The role is a great combination of operations and technology management as well as team leadership.
There is a great potential to grow in this role, and my close working relationship with the eCom executive team means that decisions are made quickly to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and, more importantly, provides a focus on company strategy and client base growth.
Additionally, the opportunity to help the business develop improvements to the quality of eCom’s product portfolio and the potential to make significant, measurable impact on the goals of the business was a key reason to join such an exciting organisation.
